A night of work in progress from theatre makers, including discussion and networking opportunities

Come and see up to two new work-in-progress showings from local theatre makers, and give them your feedback in a facilitated conversation.

This theatre scratch night is also a chance to network and develop conversations, with a section led by professional theatre makers’ network, Oxfordshire Theatre Makers.

Following scratch performances, we’ll be talking together over drinks, and have an update on upcoming OTM events.

‘Though Lovers be Lost’ is the story of Annie, a Sin Eater from Wales.

Be Prepared

Written and Performed by Lesley Stone

A comic solo piece about being in the Girl Guides.

Followed by:

An update on how to get involved with OTM, Oxfordshire Theatre Makers Network

Theatre makers speed-dating (also open to theatre audience members)

A chance to shout out about your project or hear about opportunities to see home-grown theatre.

This October the night is free, however it would be great if you could sign up to attend here so we know who is coming.

Following scratch performances, we’ll be talking together over drinks, have a special discussion (to be announced in advance), and an update on the network’s plans for their inaugural year.

The night will be free this month, however we’d love to know who will be coming. Please book a place here

We’d also love it if you wanted to share a work in progress and are looking for pieces at any stage of development lasting between for 2 and 10 minutes.

Featuring:

The View From Cumnor Hill. An extract from a play by Joel Kaye set in an elementary school in Oxfordshire in 1862. Featuring schools inspector, Matt (based on the real Matthew Arnold (1822-1888) poet, critic and schools inspector.

The Mask Show by Kepow Theatre, a performance lecture about the history and use of masks in theatre.

And the launch of Oxfordshire Theatre Makers, with a discussion about making theatre in Oxfordshire and networking opportunities.

Want to meet up with other Oxfordshire theatre makers to see how we could support each other’s work more?

As you may know, we’ve been running Scratch Nights at the Old Fire Station for three years now and the next one is on 16th June. 

 
At this Scratch night we are changing the format slightly and keeping the bar open for longer because we want to have more networking time to help develop more conversations between theatre makers about how we create work and get support for that work. 

So, as well as showing two-three works-in-progress as normal, for everyone to feed back on, we’ll also be inviting those present to talk with each other about their work and the potential for collaborating more around our own professional and artistic development.
 
So, we’re writing to you personally because we’d really like you to come and join the conversation with other artists, producers, directors and theatre makers.
 
We’d also love it if you wanted to share a work in progress for 2 to 10 minutes but that would be a fantastic bonus. Just let us know and we’ll tell you how.
 
Following some scratch performances, we’ll be talking together over drinks and also offering ideas for Oxford venues to think about with regard to their support for artists, which will get passed on to relevant directors.
 
Please do pass this on as all are welcome.  We normally charge £5 for tickets but on this occasion we’re waiving the ticket price.

Bro Fitness

Chastened by the modern obsession with heath, Wayne and Richard decide to explore all aspects of fitness. Diving head on into a brave new world the un-dynamic duo soon realise there’s more to this world than meets the eye. Selflessly prepared to lead the way, dynamic duo BroFitness will divulge their unique teachings on the matter of ‘The Hunt for Perfection’.
 
Bro Fitness is a work in progress that bring together various ideas for two characters the duo have been working on.

Electric Cabaret specialises in the practical application of Mime, Clown, Living Statue, Street Theatre, Stiltwalking and the blend of these disciplines.

An Old Fashioned Girl

Performed by Kluane Saunders and Richard Mann

This cabaret had never been performed before. Kluane and Richard want the piece to have its first outing in front of an audience before they take it to various fringe venues including the Bedford Fringe.

Kluane Saunders is an actress, and a trained soprano, with extensive dance and movement training. Recent highlights include playing ‘Glinda’ in The Wizard of Oz and being a soloist in the cabaret Make ‘em Laugh. Kluane will also be appearing as ‘Maddie’ in the workshop of a new musical Devilish! at the Tristan Bates Theatre in March 2015.

An Old Fashioned Girl is Kluane’s second self-written cabaret.

Richard Mann is a British actor, presenter and voice artist, and musician playing bass, guitar, ukulele, harmonica, and percussion.

The Choice

Written and Performed by Michael Leverett and Fraser Prince

The choice is a partly written, part devised satirical performance exploring societies increasing obsession with mobile technology. A snapshot of two modern day men suffering when their technological safety blanket is removed.

Doing it wrong productions, is a new group and this is was their first performance.

Theatre Scratch Night returns for our Autumn Offering at the Old Fire Station on Tuesday 21st October at 7.30pm

Sweep, written and performed by Anne L Ryan
A dance piece exploring the tension between movement and stillness.

Waterloo, written by Jaimie Woodham and performed by Jaimie, Steve Hay and Abi Hood
A series of monologues that explore the hidden side of the fairy lit Southbank.

And Oxford Actors’ Network performing the Fourth Dog, by Zena Forste. Three generations, three stories, three toilets. Set on the day of a big family wedding, The Fourth Dog is a play about heredity, identity and love.

What did Mummy do in the war? Things she’d never done before! 

A cabaret show created for the beginning of the WW1 Centenary, this piece examines the roles of women in both WW1 and WW2. This is a preview of a show that will be performed at St James’ Theatre in London in July.
