Monday 19th May
This week there is a lot to achieve. It’s easy to forget how much there is to fit in to a production week; rigging and focusing lights, tech sheets, tech runs, dress runs, press photography and more…. It is easy to feel like the time to play creatively is over. But after a day yesterday running through the second half, blocking all the action and in particular, working on the final scene, we are in a good place. The dramaturgy of the show has been honed, as have a couple of the characters. Now Steve needs to undertake a time consuming task of going through the large list of audio files with sound designer, Chris Full, and get everything in order. I am excited that the next time I see the piece, it will have an audioscape, breathing life in to corners and broadening the world of the play. We will need time to run it and test how scenes are altered by these extra sensory elements – will this affect the pacing of the piece dramatically? Will we need to edit the text down further, or will the sound complement the words seamlessly? It is a delicate balance, but I feel confident about the work we’ve done to date, and a lot can happen in three days!
